What is a Gua Sha Stone?

You may have been living under a rock if you haven’t seen or heard of the term ‘gua sha.’ The gua sha gemstone has become increasingly popular recently but it has actually been in the skincare game for thousands of years. The medicinal traditions of the gua sha originated in China and spread all across Southeast Asia.

By definition, gua sha is a vigorous scraping technique performed on the body to stimulate blood flow. Using the gua sha technique with a gemstone on your skin can provide several benefits. Facial gua sha done with a gemstone is a gentler practice that promotes lymphatic drainage, reduces puffiness and wrinkles, eliminates toxins, improves blood circulation and boosts collagen production.

Types of Gemstones and What They Do for the Skin

There are different kinds of gemstones you can get the gua sha tool in, some of the most popular gemstones are rose quartz, jade, and amethyst.

The rose quartz gua sha contains healing properties and stays cool to the touch. It is anti-aging and best for acne prone skin. This pretty, pink gemstone also has healing and soothing properties.

Jade gua sha is the traditional gemstone choice. It calms the skin, improves elasticity, and helps to grow skin cells. The green jade gemstone gua sha is best for contouring, lifting and working out tight muscles.

Amethyst gua sha is a beautiful purple gemstone that heals breakouts and inflamed skin. It is also loaded with negative ions that provide it with a lot of anti-inflammatory properties.

Since these gemstones have different kinds of properties, choose one that is best for your skin concerns!
